How to play on New Year's Eve
Read a question, everyone picks on three, and the smaller side has to defend its answer. The full rules and the year-round questions are in the Would You Rather game. These are made for the long stretch between dinner and the countdown, when the party needs something everyone can join.
- Start with The year that was while people arrive. Everyone has a highlight, and the stories carry the first hour.
- Save Resolutions for around 11. Pick a card, answer it, then say your real resolution out loud.
- In the last 20 minutes, switch to Countdown. Keep a countdown timer on the TV so nobody misses midnight.
- For a big room, point to one wall for the first choice and the other wall for the second. Everyone walks to their pick.
For friends, family and mixed ages
Every question is clean: no drinking, nothing awkward, nothing you would not ask in front of your grandmother. That makes the list easy to use at a party with friends, a family dinner or a get-together where teens and grown-ups share the same couch. Kids who can stay up late can join in too.
Some of the best answers come from the Travel & traditions group. Ask who has eaten twelve grapes at midnight, walked around the block with a suitcase or spent New Year's Eve in a place where it was summer. Families with roots in different countries usually have a story for each one.

More Would You Rather questions
Questions
Are these New Year's Eve would you rather questions clean?
Yes. There's no drinking and nothing 18+. They're written for teens and grown-ups at a party, and kids who stay up for midnight can play too.
When is the best time to play?
Between dinner and midnight. The year that was works as people arrive, Resolutions fits around 11, and Countdown is made for the last half hour.
How many people can play?
Two is enough, but it's more fun with a group. At a big party, vote with a show of hands or by moving to one side of the room.
Can we play over a video call?
Yes. Share your screen, read a question and have everyone hold up one finger or two. It works well for family in another time zone, before or after their own midnight.
Can I play just the New Year's questions in the game?
Yes. Use the player at the top of this page, or pick the New Year's Eve deck in the full Would You Rather game.
