How to play Who Knows Me Best
Who Knows Me Best is a guessing game about the people in the room. Each turn, one player is the star. The star answers a question about themselves in secret, and everyone else tries to guess what they picked.
It sounds easy until the options show up. Was it pizza or soup? Right on time or very, very late? You find out fast who has been paying attention.
- 1Add 3 to 10 player names. Pick a deck: Friends, Couples, Family, Work or Just for fun. Mixed shuffles every deck except Couples, which you choose on its own.
- 2Choose 1 or 2 rounds. In each round, every player is the star once.
- 3Pass the phone to the star. They read a question about themselves, like “What's my dream vacation?”, and secretly tap their real answer from four options.
- 4The star hands the phone back. The group sees the question and the four options, but not the answer. Everyone says or points to a guess.
- 5Tap Reveal. Then tap everyone who guessed right. Each right guess is worth one point.
- 6The phone goes to the next star. After the last turn, the scoreboard shows the points and who knows the group best.
Only guessers score, so the winner is whoever reads everyone else best. Being hard to guess earns the star nothing, so the star should always tap the true answer.
Want to keep talking once the scoreboard is up? Our get to know you questions turn one answer into a whole conversation.

House rules worth trying
The game handles the turns and the score, so extra rules are optional. Agree on any of these before the first star picks up the phone.
- Real answers only. The star taps what's true, not what will fool the room.
- Closest option counts. If none of the four fits exactly, the star taps the nearest one. No complaining later that the truth was “a bit of both.”
- Guess on three. Count down and point at once, so nobody copies the loudest voice.
- One sentence of proof. After Reveal, the star gets one sentence to explain. That's where the best stories come from.
- Ties. If two people finish level, they share the title. Need one winner? Each tied player says one true thing about the other, and the group picks the better answer.
- Open book bonus. The game gives points only to guessers. If you want the star in the race too, keep your own tally on paper: the star earns a point whenever every guesser gets it right.
Ways to play
The rules stay the same, but the deck and the crowd change everything. Here's how to set it up for different groups.
Best friends
Pick Friends for a best friend quiz with real bragging rights. The questions cover habits only close friends notice, like how late you run and what you overpack. Two rounds give everyone a second chance to prove they were listening.
Couples night
Choose Couples when you get together with another couple or two. Partners tend to think they'll ace it, and the whole table gets to watch. Every question is sweet and clean. If it's just the two of you, try our games for two.
Family dinner
The Family deck works for every age at the table. Questions about car rides, chores and holidays show kids how well they know their parents, and parents get a few surprises too.
New team
Use Work with a new team or at an offsite. The questions stay on safe ground: desks, lunches, meetings and favorite tasks. Nobody shares anything personal, and everyone learns how their coworkers like to work.
Tips for great guesses
Some players seem to know everyone. They aren't reading minds. They're paying attention to a few simple things.
- Think about what the star does, not what they say. Big talk about morning runs can still end on the couch.
- Remember the stories. The trip they still talk about and the dish they always order are clues hiding in plain sight.
- Watch out for the obvious pick. If one option sounds like the “right” answer, ask yourself whether the star would really choose it.
- Learn from earlier turns. Every Reveal tells you something. If the star picked the cozy option twice, that's a pattern.
- Read the star's face. Some people can't hide a smile while the group argues. That's fair game.
- Don't just follow the group. If you know something the others don't, trust it. That's how you pull ahead.
How to write your own who knows me best questions
After a few rounds, someone always starts inventing questions. That's a good sign. Here's how to make them work as well as the ones in the deck.
- Write it as the star. Use “my” and “I,” as in “What's my favorite breakfast?” The star answers about themselves, and everyone else guesses.
- Give four short, real choices. Use one to four words each, and make every option something a person in your group might actually pick.
- Make the options truly different. “Pasta” and “Spaghetti” are the same answer twice. “Pasta” and “Tacos” are a real choice.
- Ask about habits and tastes. Questions about how someone acts beat facts only one person could know, like the name of a childhood street.
- Keep it kind. Stick to quirks, favorites and routines, and skip anything that could embarrass someone.
To play homemade questions, read them out loud between games. The star writes the answer on a scrap of paper, everyone guesses, and then the star turns the paper over.
When to play Who Knows Me Best
It works best with people who know each other at least a little. It's even better with people who are sure they know each other well.
- Birthday parties: everyone gets a turn as the star, but the whole room will be trying hardest to get the birthday person right.
- Sleepovers and nights in with friends: Friends and Just for fun keep it light, and two rounds fill a good stretch of the evening.
- Couples nights: pick Couples and let every partner prove how much they've been listening.
- Family gatherings: the Family deck gives grandparents, parents and kids something to laugh about together.
- Team icebreakers: the Work deck helps a group learn how everyone likes to work, without getting personal.
When everyone is warmed up, switch to Most Likely To, where the group points at who fits each card, or This or That for fast two-way picks. Both run on one phone, with no app and no sign-up.
Questions
Is Who Knows Me Best free?
Yes. It's free to play in your browser on any phone, with no app, no account and no sign-up.
How many players do you need?
Three to ten. Every player is the star at least once, so a bigger group means more turns and more chances to score.
How long does a game take?
Each turn takes a minute or two. Six players finish one round in about ten minutes, and two rounds take about twenty.
Where can I find “how well do you know me” questions?
Right here. Every question in the game is listed on this page by deck, with its four options, so you can read them before you play.
Can couples play?
Yes. The Couples deck has 30 sweet, clean couples quiz questions. It's best with another couple or two at the table, since the game needs at least three players.
Is it OK to play at work?
Yes. The Work deck sticks to desks, lunches, meetings and favorite kinds of tasks. It never asks about pay, health, age, relationships, politics or religion.
What if none of the four options fits?
The star taps the closest one. The questions are written so most people can find their answer, and many include a way out, like “I don't dance.”
Does the star get points?
No. Points go to everyone who guessed right, and the scoreboard shows who knows the group best. If you'd like to reward the star too, keep a tally of your own.
