Games for two people

Just the two of you and one phone. These free 2 player games need no app and no setup, and they work as well on a date night as on a slow Sunday morning.

  1. Impossible choicesWould You RatherThe best pick for a long dinner or a date night. Read a card, answer on three, then explain yourselves. Impossible choices is where couples start arguing in the fun way.
  2. Yes-or-no questions onlyWho Am I?Made for two: one holds the phone to their forehead and asks yes-or-no questions, the other answers. Swap after every card and see who needs fewer questions.
  3. One letter, every categoryName, Place, Animal, ThingTwo pens, two scraps of paper, one letter. Race to fill every category, then score: an answer only you wrote is worth 10, a matching one just 5.
  4. Three answers, five secondsName 3 ThingsMade for a two-player duel. Pass the phone back and forth, play to 10 and find out who blanks first under pressure.
  5. Phone-on-your-forehead guessingForehead GuessWith two, play Solo and take turns: one guesses, the other gives clues. Use 60-second rounds and compare how many words you each got.
  6. Memory game for all agesWhat’s Missing?Play head to head and the first to name the missing word gets the point. Or team up and see how many levels you can clear together.
  7. Clean questions and safe daresTruth or DareTwo is enough to play. Silly keeps it light, and Classic gets a little more personal without crossing any lines.
  8. Five-letter word puzzleDaily WordA new five-letter word every day. Solve it together over breakfast, taking turns choosing the next guess.
  9. Find the four groupsWord GroupsSort the day's words into hidden groups. It's better with two, because one of you always spots the link the other missed.
  10. One riddle a dayRiddle of the DayOne riddle a day, with hints when you're stuck. Read it out loud and give each other a full minute before anyone reaches for a hint.

Compete or team up

Games for two come in two flavors. Some nights you want to beat each other. Other nights you'd rather be on the same side. Pick by mood, not by game.

  • Head to head: Name 3 Things, Forehead Guess, Who Am I? and Name, Place, Animal, Thing. Keep a running score and play best of three.
  • Same team: Daily Word, Word Groups, Riddle of the Day and What's Missing? You win or lose together, which makes them a nice daily habit.
  • Mostly talking: Would You Rather and Truth or Dare. Nobody keeps score, and the answers are the whole point.

Games to play with your partner

For couples, the best games are the ones that get you talking. A Would You Rather card about where you'd live or what you'd give up can turn into a half-hour conversation. Let it. The next card can wait.

The daily puzzles make a good small ritual. Daily Word, Word Groups and Riddle of the Day all have a fresh puzzle every day, so you can solve them together with your morning coffee or right before bed. It takes a few minutes and gives you something to tease each other about later.

Small stakes make it better

Two-player games get more fun with something on the line. Nothing serious, just enough to care.

  • The loser picks the movie, or has to sit through the winner's pick.
  • Best of three in Name 3 Things decides who does the dishes.
  • In Would You Rather, guess your partner's answer before they say it. A correct guess is a point.
  • In Truth or Dare, agree on two skips each before you start.

Playing long distance

Some of these work over a video call, which helps when your partner is in another city. For Forehead Guess or Who Am I?, open it on a laptop, share your screen and have the guesser look away from theirs. Name, Place, Animal, Thing is even easier: one of you shares the letter and the timer, and you each write on your own paper. Would You Rather works by sharing the card, and Truth or Dare has a Video call category with dares made for the camera.

Questions

What are good 2 player games with no app?

Would You Rather, Who Am I?, Name, Place, Animal, Thing, Name 3 Things, Forehead Guess and Truth or Dare all work with two people in your phone's browser. Daily Word, Word Groups, Riddle of the Day and What's Missing? are better when you'd rather work together than compete.

Can we play on one phone?

Yes. Every game here runs on a single phone. In Name 3 Things you pass it back and forth, in Name, Place, Animal, Thing you each write on paper, and for the rest you share the screen.

What games can couples play at home?

Would You Rather is the easiest start, since it gets you talking. For something competitive, try a Name 3 Things duel, a round of Who Am I? or Forehead Guess with 60-second rounds.

Is Truth or Dare OK for just two people?

Yes. Two is enough. All the truths and dares are clean, and you can skip any card that doesn't fit the mood.

How long does a game for two take?

A Name 3 Things game to 10 is over in a few minutes, and so is a round of Name, Place, Animal, Thing. The daily puzzles take a few minutes each. Would You Rather lasts as long as the conversation does.

Can we play if we live in different cities?

Yes, with most of them. Forehead Guess, Who Am I?, Name, Place, Animal, Thing, What's Missing?, Would You Rather and Truth or Dare work on a video call. Name 3 Things is best when you're in the same room.

Are these games free?

Yes. They're free in your browser and supported by ads. There's nothing to download and no account to make.
