Rules for a fair game of truth or dare

You know how it works: truth means an honest answer, dare means you do it. The full game is on the Truth or Dare page. A few house rules make it better for everyone.

  • Two passes each. Using one is never up for debate.
  • One answer per truth. No follow-up grilling unless the person wants to keep talking.
  • What gets said in the game stays in the game. No screenshots, and no retelling it at school.
  • Nobody films anyone without asking first, and nothing gets shared online.
  • Dares stay in the room. Nobody leaves, calls or messages anyone outside the group.
  • If a card doesn't feel right for your group, skip it and tap again.

Sleepover tips

Start the game while everyone still has energy, and play the louder dares early. After lights-out, switch to truths and the quiet dares in the Sleepover group so nobody wakes the rest of the house.

Sit in a circle so everyone can see the dares, and clear a spot on the floor for anything that involves moving around. Keep snacks to the side so nothing gets knocked over.

Put every phone except the one running the game in a pile in the middle. People stay in the conversation, and nobody films a dare by accident.

If someone is new to the group, let them watch a round before their first turn. Easy truths first, bigger dares later.

When you want something different

Friends who can't make it in person can still play. The truth or dare over text list has dares built for group chats, voice notes and video calls.

For a round with no dares at all, try Never Have I Ever questions for teens. It works well as a warm-up before truth or dare, or as a calm game for the end of the night.

More Truth or Dare questions

Questions

Are these questions okay for 13-year-olds?

Yes. Everything here is clean, with nothing 18+ and no questions about relationships. The most personal it gets is a light question about a celebrity you liked.

Will any of the truths make someone feel bad?

They shouldn't. The truths are about funny moments, habits and plans, not secrets that could hurt. Nobody is asked to rate anyone, and every player gets passes.

How do we play at a sleepover without waking everyone up?

Do the louder dares early. After lights-out, stick to truths and quiet dares like the lullaby or the flashlight joke.

How many people do you need?

Three or more is best. With more than eight, split into two circles so turns come around faster.

Can we play on a video call?

Yes. Share your screen so everyone sees the card at the same time. Most dares here work on camera, and the over-text list has more made for calls and chats.
