How to play trivia with kids
Make two or more teams and use the player at the top of this page. The phone tells each team when it is their turn. A grown-up or an older kid reads the question out loud, the team talks it over, and then someone taps to see the answer and the fun fact. For team names and the full setup, open the Trivia game.
For kids, multiple choice is usually the best way to start. Four options turn a hard question into a good guess, and nobody gets stuck. Older kids who know a lot can switch to "No options" for a real challenge.
- Mix ages on each team, so younger kids can answer the questions they know and older kids can help with the rest.
- Let the team whisper together for ten seconds before answering. Talking it out is part of the fun.
- Always read the fun fact. Kids remember the fact long after they forget the score.
- Let the reader change every round, so every kid gets a turn holding the phone.
Tips for the classroom
Put the page on the projector and split the class into four teams. Play one group at a time, like Space on Monday and The human body on Tuesday, so the questions match what you are teaching. Every question has one clear answer, which keeps arguments short.
Kids trivia makes a calm end to the day, a reward after a test or a filler before lunch. For more ideas, see our classroom games. If your class wants to buzz in, the Game Show Buzzer works on any phone or laptop.
Trivia for family game night
Kids love beating grown-ups, and trivia gives them a fair chance. Put the kids on one team and the adults on another, and let the adults play with "No options" while the kids get multiple choice.
When the kids are ready for harder questions, try the fun trivia questions for the whole family. In the fall, there is a Halloween trivia list too, which is always a hit at class parties.
